Finnan could be utterly ridiculous and extra sometimes, but he always had a unique way of looking at things. I loved Cyrus and Oisin, but Cyrus probably had at least ten plans going in case it came down to them or me, and Oisin was probably preparing a speech to make me feel better if it did.

And even if I didn’t want that to happen, there was a part of me that acknowledged that it might have to, and there was nothing I could do about it. I didn’t want to die or get turned into a stone where only Alastair could let me out.

Finnan had his own perspective, and he was probably right. Alastair could have been nice to me. He could have gotten me to agree to marry him the hard way. He treated me like this nuisance street urchin leeching off his goodwill, drugged me into thinking I was grateful and manipulating me into thinking I couldn’t survive on the street without him paying for my medication. Not only did I not need it, I was betting it wasn’t insanely expensive like he always lorded over me, even for American drug prices. They would have treated their secret Fae army the same, so we needed to put our heads together.

Everyone was in Misha’s living room. Torin was hunched over his laptop. I always wished I was good at computers. I used to be before Alastair took me. I always found them fascinating and wanted to do the kinds of things Torin was good at. Alastair refused to give me a laptop and only let me use a children’s tablet with insane parental controls on it. Things probably would have ended much differently for me if I could have gotten into things he didn’t want me to see.

“I don’t want us calling them the grim, the gorgon, and the basilisk. They have names, and Alastair and Oberon acquired them to use them just like he did me. Finnan made a good point when we were alone. They are Seelie. Alastair and Oberon aren’t going to use Sin Eater’s Tea or torture them. They expect them to obey because that’s how things are done here. The three of them probably can’t stand either of them. We just need to show them things can be different. He hasn’t had them very long, but they have had them long enough to be disliked.”

“Occasionally, the hobgoblin is spot on,” Cyrus said.

Finnan flipped him off with both hands.

“You’re a dick.”

“Thanks,” Cyrus smirked,

“The grim is named Zelig. The gorgon is Sabine, and the basilisk is Zander,” Torin said. “Oberon is really big on security cameras everywhere. He’s got nanny cams in bathrooms, which is gross. Anyway, I found the feed for the place where Alastair has been hiding them. They aren’t in the main house. He has them locked in the old servants’ quarters at the back of the castle. Back in the day, those were considered better lodging than what the common people could afford, but they are pretty shitty compared to Seelie housing now.
